Psa 3:1 A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.
LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

OK, God? Things are really, really bad here. So, I'm going to write a song about it! ???
Why would David write a psalm instead of just running from the trouble? He was running from the trouble. He was running to God. By resting in God's presence and writing a song to God about the situation, David was running from trouble.

Psa 3:2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

Hey Lord, everybody is saying that you won't or can't help me! But here I am talking to you about my trouble...I must know differently. I do know. I know you Lord. I know that you can and will deliver me!

Psa 3:3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.

Because you, Lord, are like a shield around me. All of my help comes from you! You are the one who lifts me up. You lift up my head, you exalt me above all these who don't even think you exist.

Psa 3:4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

Lord, when I lift up my voice you hear me. I'm lifting it now and I know you hear me. Your throne and your ear are never far away from those who cry out to you.

Psa 3:5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

Because I trust in you so much Lord, I'm going to sleep. I know you are taking care of me, watching over me, so I'm going to rest in you. I'm going to sleep.
Now I wake up fully rested because you took care of me, protecting from my foes all night long, while I was sleeping. Thank you Lord.

Psa 3:6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.

I'm so confident in your love and protection of me that even if 10,000 people came against me all at once, attacking from every angle, I would pay them no mind, because your love, your safety, your protection is bigger than just 10,000 people.
I've got my perspective right.

Psa 3:7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.

Rise up God! I'm calling for help. Strike my enemies. Put fear into them that are trying to put fear into me. Those sharp fangs that used to scare me are now lying broken on the ground. Thank you Lord. You really do take care of me.

Psa 3:8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

When I was shopping for deliverance and safety from my enemies I chose the right One. You Lord are my protection. You are my deliverance. May your blessing always be on those who seek refuge in you!
